Driver of ATM van sedates guards,flees with Rs 51L

Another ATM cash van was reportedly robbed in Northwest Delhi on Saturday.

Another ATM cash van was reportedly robbed in Northwest Delhi on Saturday. Police said the driver of van sedated the three security guards and fled with Rs 51 lakh.

According to police,the control room received a call about an accident involving a Maruti Eeco near the Jahangirpuri Metro station around 1.30 am on Saturday. “On reaching the spot,we found three security guards in the van in a dazed state. They were rushed to a nearby hospital. At the hospital,one of the guards told us that the driver had fled with the cash,” a police officer said.

Police said the cash was being taken by Logicash,a Mumbai-based company,which transports cash from banks to the ATMs.

The money to be meant to be deposited in the ATMs of Central Bank,Union Bank and Oriental Bank of Commerce,police said.

“The three guards — Yogesh,Hemant and Brajesh — told us that the driver Ompal offered them sweets laced with sedatives. After eating the sweets,the four went around depositing around Rs 30 lakh in various ATMs in North Delhi. Along the way,the three guards started feeling dizzy and one of them suspected that something was amiss. He tried taking control of the vehicle by grabbing the steering wheel. The car veered off and crashed into a Metro pillar near Jahangirpuri Metro station. The driver fled the spot with the cash after the accident. It was then that we received a call from a local people who thought that the Eeco had met with an accident,” a police officer said.

Police have registered a case at the Mahendra Park police station. Police said the role of the security guards were also being probed.

The three guards have been admitted to Babu Jagjivan Ram Hospital. Their condition is stable.
