A speeding DTC bus killed one person and injured three others in East Delhi on Saturday morning. The driver,who lost control of the bus,also hit another stationary DTC bus,a Maruti 800 and a Metro pillar. The police control room was informed around 8 am.
Eyewitnesses told police that the driver of the DTC bus,who was driving at a high speed,lost control of the vehicle after he rammed another DTC bus near Laxmi Nagar bus stop.
Police have arrested the driver of the bus,identified as Joginder. A case of causing death due to negligence and rash and negligent driving has been registered. Police said Joginder wasnt driving under influence.
The driver panicked and accelerated the bus,which then hit an electric pole. A woman,Jyoti (50),was rammed by the bus. She fell and sustained head injuries. She died on the spot. The bus also injured three others Rajesh,Mahender and Halke,before hitting the Maruti car and crashing into the pillar, an investigating officer said.
Those injured were rushed to the nearby LBS Hospital,where Jyoti was declared dead on arrival. The bus (route 375) was on its way to Dilshad Garden from Nehru Place.
The husband of Jyoti,a resident of Trilokpuri,had died six months ago. Police said she worked as a maid in several homes in Laxmi Nagar area. She is survived by two children.
Hospital authorities said the three injured persons had been discharged from the hospital after being administered first aid.
One of the injured,Mahender,is a DTC employee. At the time of the incident,he was inside the stationary DTC bus,police said.
