DPS Society row gets uglier, new head says getting threats
Demanding police protection, Nayak said that if police would not help she would be forced to sit in protest outside Parliament House.
The top management of the DPS Society has been locked in a squabble for over a week after former vice-chairperson of the society Admiral Chopra filed an FIR against Nayak, alleging that she had “assumed charges” as chairman without being appointed to the position.
The new chairperson of the Delhi Public School (DPS) Society, Sharada Nayak, on Monday appealed for “urgent help” in a letter to Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh. Nayak also met with Delhi Police Commissioner B S Bassi to inform him that police were “refusing” to file her FIR against the office bearers of the society for “not allowing her to discharge duties”.
Nayak — a life member of the society — has claimed she is receiving threats from certain quarters, “asking her to quit her office”. In a statement, she said similar threats were also being issued to many life members of the society. Demanding police protection, Nayak said that if police would not help she would be forced to sit in protest outside Parliament House.

She has also reached out to Union Minister for Human Resource Development Smriti Irani in this regard. “I told the Commissioner that everyone in the national capital talks of women’s safety, and here I am running from pillar to post to get my FIR admitted,” she said. Nayak said that the commissioner has assured her that an FIR will be filed.

The FIR filed by Chopra states that “approximately 10 persons trespassed into the office of the chairman of DPS society, VK Shunglu, after breaking open the locks of his office.” It has also been alleged that the trespassers “forcibly occupied the office of the chairman and started issuing orders to the staff illegally”.
Nayak had said, “On March 28, I moved a resolution through private circulation to dissolve the current working committee of the society. The resolution was passed unanimously and the current working committee stands dissolved.”
Explaining the reasons for moving the resolution, Nayak had alleged financial irregularities in the society. “Several members have been asking the chairman to call a general body meeting to discuss the financial irregularities but he has refused to do so. That is why I moved the resolution in his absence and have assumed charge in the interim,” she said.
She has since stated that because an interim chairperson was required, she has been given that charge by the life members.
