Following repeated incidents of stone-pelting at Metro trains between the Shahdara and Welcome stations,Managing Director of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) E Sreedharan has written to Lieutenant-Governor Tejendra Khanna and Commissioner of Police Y S Dadwal to look into the issue.

The Metro tracks between Shahdara and Welcome are parallel to the railway tracks. They are separated by a high wall, but urchins from the nearby area pick stones from the tracks and throw them at passing Metro trains, damaging doors, windshields, glasses and transformers.

Metro services between Shastri Park and Shahdara were disrupted on Monday after the stones damaged a transformer and exposed the 25 KV overhead electric wires. “After it rained last evening, there was a short-circuit in the damaged transformer. Power supply was disrupted for two hours between Shastri Park and Seelampur,” Anuj Dayal,DMRC spokesperson, said. “A single line had to be introduced on the section, and in the process 12 round trips were cancelled and eight round trips got delayed.”
