The Deputy Mayor of Gurgaon, Parminder Kataria, has been booked for allegedly raping a 36-year-old widow on the pretext of getting her a job in Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG). He had also allegedly assured that he would marry her. A case of rape has been filed against Kataria at women’s police station in sector 51 Gurgaon.
According to senior police officials, the victim is a widow and was Kataria’s neighbour in Ashok Vihar. Sources said they were in a live-in relationship for six months before the complaint was filed, she now lives with her two children in her house in Sector 10, Gurgaon. She befriended Kataria a couple of years ago when she used to visit his office for work, sources said.
An FIR has been registered under sections 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC against Kataria, police said. “The victim has alleged that after her meeting with Kataria, he had promised to marry her and offered her a job in MCG. She alleged that Kataria exploited her physically on several occasions when they were in a live-in relationship,” said Deepak Saharan, Deputy Commissioner of Police (East), Sunday.
Kataria’s phone has apparently been switched off since Saturday evening, A person from his office said, “We haven’t had any kind of communication with him (Kataria) since Saturday night. We were not even aware of any such complaint being registered against him.”
“The victim has alleged that the deputy mayor raped her repeatedly after making false promises of marriage. She has also alleged that he (Kataria) along with two others had threatened her of dire consequences if she complained. The accused allegedly lured her with his powerful connections and offered her a job to win her confidence,” said Saharan.
