CASH AND jewellery worth Rs 3.5 crore was stolen from a Defence Colony bungalow belonging to the daughter of Jet Airways vice-president (security) Avneet Singh.

Police said the incident took place Sunday night. The family, which lives in Anand Lok, had left to attend a wedding at 9.15 pm. When they returned home at 3.45 am, they found that a window on the ground floor was open. “The burglars entered through a window which was not bolted. The family told police that the burglars made off with jewellery worth 3 crore and Rs 60,000 in cash. A case was registered at Defence Colony police station. We are investigating the matter,” said Additional DCP (south) Nupur Prasad.

Police said the family owns the three-storey building. While they stay on the ground floor, the other two floors have been rented out.

Police said the bungalow had no security arrangements or a guard, and no CCTV cameras had been installed in the premises.

Domestic help and locals, including security guards in the area, have been questioned but police said they are yet to get any leads on the burglars. “We have questioned 22 people including the family. The domestic helps were reportedly sleeping in their quarters behind the bungalow. The family said they do not doubt the servants,” said the additional DCP.

Police said they are scanning footage from CCTV cameras in the area. Meanwhile, the forensics team visited the spot and collected fingerprints to screen the suspects. Singh’s son-in-law Tanmay Seth said, “They took my wife’s jewellery and cash from the bedroom. It doesn’t seem like they entered the other rooms.”

He added that police have obtained call details of everyone in the house. “I do not suspect the domestic helps as they are like my family. But someone had exact knowledge of my belongings and where they were kept. Police said they are looking into the matter,” said Seth.
