Police said the alleged incident took place on November 12 at the woman’s home.

According to police, the shooter said in her complaint that she grew close to the coach and they entered into a relationship. The coach also promised to marry her, police said, quoting the complainant.

According to police, the woman invited the coach to her residence on her birthday. Once there, he allegedly spiked her soft drink and raped her.

A senior police officer said, “When she asked him to marry her, he refused. The woman also said in her complaint that the coach threatened to kill her if she pressed for marriage. An investigation is on but we are yet to make an arrest,” a senior police officer said.

Police said the coach’s mobile number has been switched off.

Raninder Singh, president of the National Rifle Association of India, said, “The NRAI has no view or comments to offer other than empathise with the woman because of the sensitivity of the issue. As a responsible sports federation, we abhor such acts and law will take its own course.”
