Delhi top cop authorises district DCPs to use NATGRID to curb crime

“This powerful tool is really helpful to track down criminals or suspects… This will certainly help the district police as well in solving cases,” said an officer.

Delhi has been divided into 15 police districts with 180 territorial police stations. To solve difficult cases, each district gets a dedicated special staff unit, along with a group of police officers.

At Thursday’s meeting, a presentation was given to all special commissioners, joint commissioners and DCPs on the functioning of NATGRID, sources said. The officers were also briefed about the applications like e-Pramaan and Chatbot. While e-Pramaan helps investigating officers in audio-video record search and seizure operations, Chatbot is an AI tool that can have a conversation with users using text or speech.

An officer said Delhi Police will also adopt whitelisting, a cyber security strategy, to protect its private networks and devices from outside attacks. “A device will be set up under the watch of the joint CP or special CP-rank officer… To generate any query regarding a suspect, investigators will have to take permission of the device’s custodian,” the officer added.
