Delhi to UP: Family under probe for death of daughter has been killed

According to the Crime Branch, the accused killed the family over personal rivalry. It added that bodies of the other three victims are yet to be found.

Police arrested Abhishek Pal for the murders. Bodies of three other victims yet to be found.

Two years after a woman was found dead in Uttar Pradesh, with state police suspecting it to be an honour killing case since her parents and brother were missing, the Delhi Police Crime Branch has arrested a man for allegedly killing the entire family.

According to the Crime Branch, the accused killed the family over personal rivalry. It added that bodies of the other three victims are yet to be found.

Additional Commissioner of Police (crime) A K Singla said Abhishek Pal alias Mintu (26) was arrested near Outer Ring Road on Wednesday.

He said that the accused and two of his associates allegedly killed Ved Prakash, his wife Sadhana and children Shubham and Naina on July 16, 2016, and dumped their bodies in Hapur’s Gang Nahar (Ganga Canal).

Police said Naina’s body was found by their counterparts in UP. Police suspected it was an honour killing, and declared Naina’s parents and brother proclaimed offenders. In March, UP Police filed a chargesheet in the case.

Police said Prakash ran a garments shop and lived with his family in Delhi’s Wazirabad. “During questioning, Abhishek told police that in August 2015, Prakash had given Rs 4 lakh to a common friend of theirs to start a business and had made Abhishek an approver. But the business failed and the friend couldn’t repay the money… The interest hit Rs 8 lakh and Prakash started pressuring the duo to pay him. So, Abhishek hatched a plan to eliminate him,” said Singla.

Police said Abhishek discussed the plan with a relative of Prakash, who had a family dispute with him, as well as the common friend. Police said that Prakash’s Santro was with Abhishek as he was teaching Shubham driving.

“On July 15, 2016, Abhishek asked Prakash to meet him and picked him up in the Santro. He was accompanied by a juvenile associate. As soon as Prakash got inside, the juvenile strangled him with a wire. They then spotted Shubham nearby. Thinking he might have seen them, they killed him and dumped both bodies in the trunk,” said Singla.

“They then called Prakash’s wife and daughter and killed them and kept their bodies in the trunk of Abhishek’s car. They parked both cars in a lane close to Abhishek’s house. The next day, the accused roped in another juvenile to help him dump the bodies in the canal,” added Singla.

Delhi Police said the juvenile who helped Abhishek kill the family died in an accident in September. According to police sources, the juvenile who died had told several people he murdered four persons. Police said Abhishek had a previous criminal record and was a close friend of the juvenile.

“Recently, our local intelligence informed us that the juvenile and Abhishek were involved in a murder in their area. We picked up Abhishek and he confessed to the murder,” said a police officer.

“We have informed UP police. They will take custody of Abhishek,” added the officer.

Superintendent of Police (Hapur) SP Sankalp Sharma told The Indian Express that they have not received any official communication or interrogation report of the accused from Delhi Police. “As soon I get that, I can verify the facts. Only then can I comment on the case,” he said.
