Multiple tears, penetrating injuries, canine bite injuries and puncture wounds are what led to the death of two siblings, aged seven and five, in south Delhi’s Vasant Kunj area after stray dogs attacked them a fortnight ago, as per their autopsy reports.

The autopsy reports of the boys, who died on March 10 and March 12, reveal the provisional cause of death is canine bite injuries. Anand (7) and Aditya (5) were mauled to death by a pack of street dogs at the same spot near their home in the space of two days.

Soon after the deaths, police wrote to the MCD about the dog menace in Ruchi Vihar and more than 40 dogs were picked up from the area. Anand went missing from his home on March 10. He was going to meet his aunt who also lives in the same locality, but never reached there. Police and the family later found his body near a wall inside a vacant plot. The FIR in the case stated that there were a few stray dogs at the spot where the blood-soaked clothes and the boy’s footwear were recovered.

After Anand’s death, when his mother went to the Mahipalpur area to meet her relatives, the younger sibling, Aditya, was with his cousin Chandan. Chandan saw the dogs attacking his cousin and screamed for help, according to police. Police and locals came to help but the boy also succumbed to injuries.

The autopsy reports of the boys, which The Indian Express accessed, revealed multiple, grievous injuries all over their heads, necks, backs, limbs and abdomens.

“Death…is due to shock and haemorrhage as a result of multiple injuries to the head, neck vessels, cervical spine and body caused by multiple canine bite injuries…(dog bite)” reads an autopsy report.

The provisional cause of death is stated to be the multiple injuries, shock and haemorrhage. The bodies show tears, blunt trauma, penetrating injuries, injuries showing canine teeth and paw injuries.

A medical board of three doctors conducted the autopsies at the Safdarjung Hospital.

Meanwhile, the boys’ family members said they wished to move out of the area because street dogs “had been released there again”. Their mother, Sushma (30), moved to Delhi last year to start a new life with her three children. She said her husband was mentally challenged and lived with his family in Allahabad.

“I think about my sons all the time. I blame myself for everything. I wanted them to study and not struggle as I did. I was shocked when I saw their bodies. They were innocent boys who were killed by dogs…I do not want to live here. I cannot bear the sight of dogs in the area. They can kill anyone,” she said.

She has temporarily quit her job at a beauty parlour and stays home to take care of her son Ansh (9).
