Shahbad Dairy murder case: The story so far

A 16-year-old girl was stabbed and bludgeoned to death by a 20-year-old man in Outer Delhi's Shahbad Dairy. Here's what we know so far.

Sahil Khan (20), who allegedly stabbed and killed his 16-year-old girlfriend on Saturday, was produced before the Rohini court on Tuesday and sent to two day police custody. Evidences linked to murder like piece of cloth of the victim and mobile phone of the accused have been recovered by the Delhi police. The reason of the murder is said to be the end of the relationship that the minor girl wanted, as per Delhi Police sources. Delhi Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal hit out at the Lieutenant Governor, while BJP termed this as a case of ‘love-jihad’.

The victim’s father knew about the relationship of the girl and asked him to stay away from the accused and rather focus on studies. The girl started ignoring his calls and wanted to end the relationship but the boy kept on threatening and kept sending her Instagram voice notes. The girl along with her friends threatened to beat the accused  and humiliated her according to a statement by Delhi Police. This triggered Sahil and he planned to kill her .

    What happened on Sunday night?

    Sahil Khan accosted the minor and stabbed her at least 20 times and then hit her with a concrete slab lying nearby until she died, according to the police. The murder, which took place Sunday night, was caught on CCTV cameras. The police said the 20-year-old accused and the girl, who completed class 10 this year, were in a “relationship,” and that the attack followed an argument between them.     Behind the murder, a strained relationship, say police

    Delhi Police sources said the accused and the deceased had a strained relationship. “It has been deduced that Sahil was upset with the minor because she was ignoring his calls and wanted to end the relationship. This angered him and he had threatened to kill her. He kept pressuring her to continue the relationship but she did not listen,” said an officer. The Delhi Police said they are yet to recover the murder weapon and are interrogating Sahil, who was brought to Delhi early Tuesday. Read our full story here.

    Here's what the victim's father told the police

    The victim's father claimed he knew of his daughter’s relationship with the accused and asked her to stay away from him and “focus on studies”, police sources said. A senior officer, quoting the FIR, said: “The father said he knew that the accused and the victim knew each other since the last year, and that the accused, Sahil, used to live a short distance from their house.” In the FIR, the father said, “Whenever my daughter mentioned Sahil… we would make her understand that she is too young right now and should focus on her studies… Whenever we tried to convince her to leave Sahil and focus on other things, she used to fight with us and leave the house after getting upset.” Read our full story here.

    BJP called it as a case of 'love-jihad', AAP hits out at Delhi L-G

    A political blame game erupted Monday following the killing of a teenager allegedly by her boyfriend following a spat in Delhi’s Shahbad Dairy area. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal hit out at Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena over the law and order situation of the national capital even as the BJP termed the brutal killing an incident of ‘Love Jihad.’ “A minor girl is brutally murdered openly in Delhi. This is very sad and unfortunate. The criminals have become fearless, there is no fear of the police. LG sir, law and order is your responsibility, do something.     Sahil under two-day police custody

    Sahil Khan (20) roamed around the same locality for nearly half an hour and sat in a local park before fleeing the city, said police Tuesday. He was arrested a day later from Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahr. Sahil was produced before the Rohini court Tuesday and sent to two-day police custody. In the remand application, police said they have recovered evidence including a piece of cloth belonging to the victim and mobile phone of the accused, adding they are yet to recover the murder weapon.     'Introverted, short-tempered’: What neighbours said about accused

    Residents of the locality where Sahil lived knew him as an introverted, short-tempered man who mostly kept to himself and would occasionally pick fights with the neighbours over trivial issues. The neighbours said they barely saw Sahil in the locality as he mostly stayed out for work, leaving in the morning on his bike, repairing AC and fridges around the area, and coming back only in the evening.     An aspiring lawyer who was self-sufficient, popular among friends and idolised by her younger sibling – this is how parents, friends and neighbours describe the 16-year-old girl who was stabbed and bludgeoned to death allegedly by a 20-year-old man in Shahbad Dairy on Sunday.

    The teenager had recently cleared her Class 10 exam and was planning to pursue humanities so that she could achieve her dream of becoming a lawyer, her mother told The Indian Express.
