Delhi riots: Court frames rioting, attempt to murder charges against Ishrat Jahan, Khalid Saifi, 11 others

A Delhi court on Friday framed charges of rioting and attempt to murder against ex-Congress councillor Ishrat Jahan, activist Khalid Saifi along with 11 others in the Delhi riots case of 2020.

Additional Sessions Judge Amitabh Rawat, however, discharged offences of criminal conspiracy along with offences under the Arms Act against all the 13 accused.

The crowd, involving the accused, refused to disburse during their flag march on February 26, 2020, in Khureji Khas despite police orders.

It was alleged by the prosecution that Ishrat Jahan, Khalid Saifi who is the founder of United against Hate Organisation and other accused abetted the crowd not to leave the area and resorted to stone pelting and at the police.

The First Information Report stated that a head constable got injured in the melee.

Both Ishrat Jahan and Khalid Saifi were also arrested in the Delhi riots larger conspiracy UAPA case. While Jahan was granted bail, Saifi remains in judicial custody and his bail plea is pending in the Delhi High Court.
