Delhi PWD Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh said Thursday he has given directions to all departments concerned to remove “illegal” encroachments, including stalls of meat and fish sellers.
This was in response to a query raised during Question Hour in the Delhi Assembly after Shakur Basti MLA Karnail Singh said meat was being sold openly in shops on roads and footpaths during Navratri, and it hurts the sentiments of Hindus. He asked the minister to take action.
“I have instructed all officials to remove illegal shops encroaching roads… I also urge all MLAs to report encroachments in their area and participate in a drive, which will take place soon,” said the minister.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced that the government will celebrate all “state days” in Delhi.
“I received wonderful suggestions from my colleagues and I would definitely like to add it to the budget. People from different parts of the country live here. Keeping their sentiments, tradition and culture, Delhi will not celebrate all state days, starting from April 1, when Odisha day is celebrated,” she said.
Gupta also said that all the markets of Delhi would be improved and developed. “I also received suggestions from our colleagues for the improvement and development of temples, and a proposal for reviving the Trans Yamuna Board is also there.”
PWD Minister Singh said the Delhi Government has increased allocation for the celebration of Chhath Puja, Phool Walon ki Sair, and Kanwar Yatra to Rs 55 crore from Rs 25 crore. He also criticised the previous AAP government for not spending a penny from the sanctioned Rs 80 crore in 2024-25.
Mustafabad MLA and Deputy Speaker Mohan Singh Bisht will move a resolution to rename the Mustafabad Assembly constituency to Shiv Vihar, given the sentiments of the voters.
