A 45-year-old priest was arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a minor girl in northwest Delhi’s Bhalswa Dairy. He was produced before a court Thursday, which sent him to judicial custody for 14 days.
According to police, the accused, Rajesh Shukla, hailed from a village in Uttar Pradesh and lived inside the temple premises with other priests. “On Wednesday evening, the five-year-old girl complained of pain in her abdomen. She told her mother that when they had gone to the temple two days ago, the priest had sexually assaulted her,” said a police officer.
The girl’s family members informed police about the incident. “She told investigators that the priest had taken her to a secluded spot behind the temple and assaulted her,” said the officer.
“A case was registered on the basis of the girl’s complaint and the accused was arrested under relevant sections of IPC and the POCSO Act,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (north-west) Vijay Singh.
