Delhi cop moves court in drug seizure case: ‘Unfair probe by state’
In his latest plea, the SI stated the CCTV footage pertaining to the case indicates that the sequence of events narrated by the prosecution “is false”. “... in such circumstances, it is clear that the investigation being carried out is not independent and fair”.

Almost a year after Sub-Inspector (SI) Naresh Kumar was served a notice by the Delhi Police to appear before the investigating officer in connection with his alleged role in the seizure of over 100 kg of drugs from two houses in Ashram earlier this year, the SI has moved court seeking transfer of the investigation to a different unit. In his plea, Kumar stated an “unfair investigation is being carried out by the state”.
Following the raids in January, police had arrested three persons and apprehended a juvenile. Police said they recovered 74 and 35 kg of ganja in plastic bags from the two houses.

The application was moved by Kumar, posted with the Anti-Extortion and Kidnapping Cell of the Delhi Police Crime Branch, last month before the court of Special NDPS judge Tarun Sehrawat at Saket court. The matter is to come up for hearing on October 16, when police are supposed to file a response to the plea.
This, even as Kumar, who police said has been absconding since the registration of the case at Sunlight Colony police Station in Southeast Delhi in January, has moved two anticipatory bail pleas — in February and early July.

His counsel has stated there were “material contradictions” in what has been stated in the FIR and the contents of the chargesheet. The plea further said in view of the mentioned facts, the case be directed to be transferred to another department of the Delhi Police.
During the hearing of his first bail plea, police had stated that it had obtained CCTV footage showing SI Kumar entering the Ashram house. Police had also told the court that call detail records and WhatsApp chats showed SI Kumar was in touch with the arrested accused.
Kumar had joined the force in 1990. His anticipatory bail plea is listed before judge Sehrawat on November 22. He is being represented by advocates Ashok Anand and Dharmendra Rana.
