The Delhi Police Crime Branch recently arrested two Nigerian nationals and their cab driver for allegedly trafficking drugs in the Delhi-NCR region, officials said on Friday. The accused were allegedly caught with 563 grams of pure cocaine worth around 3.3 crore, the police said.
On September 27, acting on a tip-off about a Nigerian drug peddler supplying narcotics in Delhi-NCR, a Crime Branch team caught Joshua Amarachukwa, 30, and his cab driver and associate, Vinit, 24. Amarachukwa had been staying at Delhi’s Sunlight Colony since 2021 on a medical visa, the police said, adding that they found 257 grams of cocaine in his possession.
According to the police, during questioning, Amarachukwa revealed that another Nigerian national, Kone N Golo Seydou aka Mike, 27, supplied cocaine to him which he then sold in small quantities to his clients in Delhi-NCR. Mike, a resident of Sector 33 in Haryana’s Sohna, was subsequently arrested and an additional 306 grams of cocaine was allegedly seized from his possession.
The police alleged that Vinit, a resident of Sriniwas Puri, met Amarachukwa a few months ago and used to accompany him on all his drug deals.
Sanjay Bhatia, Additional Commissioner of Police, Crime Branch, said that Amarachukwa met Mike, who came to India on a business visa, in a Nigerian kitchen in Delhi’s Vikaspuri. “Mike promised to help him financially if Amarachukwa worked for him. He used to send phone numbers of customers to him and pay Rs 1,000 on every drug delivery,” Bhatia said, adding that Mike came from Nigeria two months ago with 2 kg of cocaine with him.
Mike had established a wide network in Delhi NCR and only sold drugs to those who were known to him, the police alleged.
The three accused have been arrested under various sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
