Delhi News Highlights (November 24): Fifteen years after 25-year-old journalist Soumya Vishwanathan was killed, a Delhi court today sentenced four men guilty of murder and offences under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act to life imprisonment. Ordering the quantum of punishment, the court said the offence does not fall in the category of rarest of rare cases and hence refused the request for death penalty.
In other news, as per the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data Delhi’s air quality index AQI was recorded at 421 at 9 am. On Friday, the capital city had seen the month’s tenth ‘severe’ air day. With a 24-hour average AQI of 415 at 4 pm and by 7 pm the AQI had deteriorated further to 422. The worst AQI of 473 was recorded at Jahangirpuri and Bawana at 7 pm.
Meanwhile, to boost tourism and increase revenue, the Delhi Tourism Department is planning to develop two new coffee homes in East Delhi’s IP Extension and West Delhi’s Janakpuri. The officials said that besides, plans are afoot to upgrade other properties that come under Delhi Tourism such as Dilli Haat, Azad Hind Gram, and GTB memorial at Singhu Border.
