Delhi News Highlights: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday came to the defence of Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia after Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena recommended a CBI investigation into the Delhi Excise Policy 2021-22 and accused Sisodia of procedural lapses. “I’ve known Sisodia for 22 years and I have never seen anyone as honest or as much of a deshbhakt as him,” Kejriwal said.
Saxena accused Sisodia of giving benefits to licensees without the LG’s approval. He further alleged that the AAP government used the money from grant of licences for the Punjab elections. “How far can you go with false allegations. You arrested Satyendra Jain who was working in the health sector and now want put Sisodia who is making careers and lives of lakhs of children in Delhi in jail,” Kejriwal alleged.
Meanwhile, days after Kejriwal wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking permission to attend the World Cities Summit in Singapore, Deputy CM Manish Sisodia Thursday said Delhi Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena has “advised the CM to not attend the event as it does not cover subjects under the ambit of GNCTD.” Stating that many issues were to be discussed, including Delhi’s education system, health system, electricity, public transportation etc, Sisodia said Kejriwal has written that he does not agree with the advise of the LG. The CM has decided that he will apply for political clearance at the Ministry of External affairs, Sisodia added. According to Delhi government officials, the file seeking permission for Kejriwal’s travel to Singapore to attend the summit was sent to Governor V K Saxena on June 7 but more than a month later, it was yet to be cleared. The summit will be held on August 3-4
