GRAP III in Delhi amid worsening pollution: The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) on Wednesday decided to bring back GRAP III curbs in the national capital amid the worsening air quality in the city. The restrictions were put into place with immediate effect, and are likely to remain for the rest of the week. This comes after national capital’s Air Quality Index (AQI) entered the ‘very poor’ category with a reading of 330 yesterday.
Congress Manifesto release: Meanwhile, the Congress Party unveiled its manifesto on Wednesday for the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections, with senior leader Jairam Ramesh leading the announcement. Emphasizing the party’s commitment to addressing public needs, Congress introduced its campaign slogan, “Every need will be fulfilled, Congress is necessary.” Meanwhile, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge is scheduled to address a rally in the Burari Assembly seat, a stronghold of the ruling AAP, which has won the constituency in the last three elections
Jammu and Kashmir MP Rashid Engineer on Wednesday moved the Delhi High Court seeking interim bail in a terror-funding case.
Rashid sought the reprieve on the ground that he wished to attend the upcoming budget session of the Parliament, which begins on January 31 and concludes on April 4.
As an alternative, he prayed that he be given custody parole during this period.
The plea forms part of his pending petition on the issue of granting him bail in the case by the NIA. (PTI)
Centre-led Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) implemented GRAP III curbs in Delhi on Wednesday, owing to the worsening air quality index of the national capital. The national capital's Air Quality Index (AQI) entered the 'very poor' category with a reading of 330 on Wednesday, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).
With the Delhi polls drawing nearer, the Congress on Wednesday launched its election manifesto, promising to conduct a caste census and set up a ministry for Purvanchalis if it is voted to power in the capital.
The party, which was ousted from power by the AAP in 2013, also promised a monthly grant of Rs 2,500 to women, free electricity up to 300 units, and LPG cylinders at Rs 500.
Free health insurance of up to Rs 25 lakh and free ration kits were also among the party's guarantees.
The manifesto, divided into 22 focus areas, was unveiled by Delhi Congress president Devender Yadav, who was flanked by Congress communications in-charge Jairam Ramesh.
The manifesto also promises financial assistance of Rs 8,500 per month for one year to educated unemployed youth. The party also proposed launching 100 Indira canteens across the city, offering meals at Rs 5. (PTI)

Prime Minister Modi, in his address on Wednesday, stated that the AAP is now targeting Congress. He mentioned that Congress leaders went to villages and claimed that if the BJP comes to power, they will halt MNREGA. However, he emphasized "be it any govt...BJP never stops the welfare schemes meant for people."

A 50-year-old doctor from Delhi was found murdered at his house in Greater Noida’s Kulesara village on Sunday, the Noida police said. Two tenants who were staying at the doctor’s house are missing and the police suspect their role in the crime, a senior police official added.
In an official statement issued on Monday, the Noida police identified the deceased as Dr Dinesh Gaur and said that he and his family stayed in Kondli in Delhi. Dr Gaur would occasionally visit his house in Sanjay Vihar Colony in Greater Noida’s Kulesara village, the police added.
“Dr Gaur had come to his residence a few days ago and was allegedly murdered with a hammer,” Shakti Mohan Awasthy, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Central Noida, said on Tuesday. Read
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) officials stated on Wednesday that visibility dropped to 1,100 meters at 7:30 am and persisted over Palam, marking the lowest recorded visibility in the past six days.

More than a day after a four-storey residential building collapsed in Burari, Delhi, a couple and their two minor sons were rescued alive late Tuesday night.
The family survived due to a pocket of space created when a ceiling slab fell on a gas cylinder.
The collapse, which occurred near Oscar Public School on Monday evening, has claimed five lives, including two minors. Rescue operations involving Delhi Police, NDRF, and fire services are ongoing, with 21 people pulled out so far—16 alive and five dead.

Meanwhile, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge is scheduled to address a rally in the Burari Assembly seat, a stronghold of the ruling AAP, which has won the constituency in the last three elections.
