Delhi News Highlights: Union Home Minister Amit flagged off the ‘Run for Unity’ on the 150th birth anniversary of the country’s first Home Minister, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium. Shah said after India’s independence, the British decided to leave the country divided into 562 princely states. “Within a short span of time, Sardar Patel accomplished the monumental task of integrating all 562 princely states and the map of modern India that we see today is the result of his vision and efforts,” he said.

‘Poor’ AQI: The air quality showed a slight improvement on Friday morning but still remained in the “poor” category, with many areas experiencing clearer skies and better visibility compared to recent days. According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the national capital recorded an AQI of 268, categorised as ‘poor’, as of 8 am on Friday. Yesterday, at the same time, the city’s air quality was in the ‘very poor’ category, as the AQI recorded at 8 am was 352.

Third-time lucky?: After two cloud seeding trials failed to produce rain in Delhi, the government did not conduct another scheduled trial due to insufficient moisture in the air. Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa said another round of cloud seeding is slated in the coming days, depending on the weather and humidity conditions. He said the initiative reflected a “science-driven, evidence-based approach” to improving Delhi’s air.

The AAP and BJP clashed over a bungalow allegedly provided in Chandigarh to former Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal. While the AAP rubbished the charge that its Punjab government has provided any bungalow, the BJP dubbed it "sheesh mahal 2.0" worth crores.

Women account for 61 per cent (11,917) of the 19,682 people reported missing till October 15, according to Delhi Police data.

The data also shows that the proportion of missing females remained consistently high, continuing a long-term trend of gender imbalance in the city.

It showed that men made up 39 per cent (7,765) of those missing. Among the total, 55 per cent (10,780) were traced – 61 per cent (6,541) women and 39 per cent (4,239) men, it added. — PTI

Delhi News LIVE Updates: Stray dogs case: No respect for court's order; chief secretaries to appear physically, says SC

The Supreme Court Friday refused to accept the request of Solicitor General Tushar Mehta that chief secretaries of states, except West Bengal and Telangana, be allowed to appear virtually before the court on November 3 in the stray dogs case.

Mehta mentioned the matter before a bench of Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta, which made it clear that the chief secretaries will have to appear physically before the court on November 3.

"When we require them to come and file compliance affidavit, they are just sleeping over it. No respect for the order of the court. Then alright, Let them come," Justice Nath said.

Mehta urged the bench that instead of appearing physically, the chief secretaries be allowed to appear before the court virtually.

While hearing the stray dogs matter on October 27, the top court had directed the chief secretaries of all the states, except West Bengal and Telangana, to remain present before it on November 3 to explain why compliance affidavits were not filed despite the court's August 22 order.
