Delhi News Highlights, December 10, 2022:  Soon after Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal  asked AAP councillors to get ready to expose BJP’s ‘operation lotus’, BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla alleges that AAP workers approached their councillors and are trying to buy them. Dr Monika Patra, a newly elected councillor, alleged at a press conference that she was approached by an AAP leader and offered money to leave the BJP and join AAP. The Delhi BJP unit will file a complaint with the anti-corruption branch at 4pm today.

Meanwhile, Kejriwal earlier said the “heavy BJP machinery” deployed during campaigning made the MCD polls the toughest election contested by the Aam Aadmi Party so far, accusing the saffron party of pressuring media to spread propaganda. Addressing the newly elected councillors, Kejriwal asserted that the AAP does positive politics and talks about “our work” “This election was very very tough. A few people say it was an easy election, but it was not. The way they conspired against us and the way they used state machinery against us, it was the toughest elections we ever contested,” Kejriwal claimed.

Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia, in his first interaction with the newly elected councillors of AAP on Saturday morning said that a golden period is about to come in MCD under AAP. “It will be the first time in the history that same honest government which is ruling the city is also going to form government in MCD,” he said.

Row over office of DDCD vice-chairman: Delhi L-G now refers matters to President, cites ‘difference of opinion’

A day after Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal issued a directive to recall the L-G’s order against Dialogue and Development Commission of Delhi vice-chairperson Jasmine Shah, the L-G Secretariat in a statement said as there is a “difference of opinion on this issue”, the L-G has referred this matter to the “President of India and that no action can be taken without the consideration of the President”.

On Friday, Kejriwal had issued directions to the Planning department to recall the L-G’s order against Shah and de-seal his office.

Last month, Delhi L-G V K Saxena had ordered that Shah “be restricted from discharge of functions as V-C” and also be barred from using “any privileges and facilities connected with the office of V-C, DDCD, with immediate effect”. He also asked Kejriwal to sack Shah from the post for allegedly “misusing his office for political purposes”, and directed the planning department to prevent him from using any “privileges and facilities” till a “decision is taken by the CM” in this regard.

Chaos at Delhi airport’s T3, long queues at ticket counters, immigration, security check

Long queues at immigration, unorganised security checks, chaos at the lounge — Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport Terminal 3 has become a nightmare for passengers despite authorities reducing flights.

Passengers have been complaining for weeks about how departure from the T3 Airport is a tedious process. Visuals from the airport shared on social media show men and women lined up in several queues for security check, with some saying they had to wait for two to three hours at the clearance area.

Some of the reasons for the long queues at the immigration and security checks are because of fewer counters, smaller space, more passengers and limited security staff. Traffic outside the terminal is also causing trouble. Meanwhile, airlines have started asking passengers to come at least 3.5 hours before departure.

Gurgaon civic body takes away 4 unregistered dogs, leaves many wondering: ‘Will my pet be next?’

Days after the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) put out a public notice stating that unregistered pet dogs taken into its custody “are liable to be destroyed or otherwise disposed of”, unless they are claimed and a fee is paid within a week, pet dog owners are grappling with anxiety over one unsettling question: “Will my dog be taken away?”

Sources said the MCG recently took away four dogs — a Pakistani Bully from Sector 14, a German Shepherd from Sector 9, a mini Bully from Bhim Nagar and a Pitbull from Ullawas village. “Those dogs weren’t registered with MCG. They were taken into custody and sent to a shelter in Basai as per by-laws,” said an official. Earlier this week, the MCG issued a public notice directing pet owners under its jurisdiction to comply with bylaws of the Haryana Municipal Corporation Act, 1994. It said all dogs under municipal jurisdiction must be registered with the municipal commissioner (registration authority) and every registered dog shall wear a collar attached to a metal token in a public place. 19 years on, Delhi HC overturns man’s conviction in homicide case because ‘trial court record got lost’

The Delhi High Court recently set aside the conviction and sentence of a man accused of homicide on the ground that trial court records could not be found or reconstructed, 19 years after he challenged the trial court’s decision.

A single judge bench of Justice Jasmeet Singh in its November 28 order observed that perusal of the trial court record is an essential element to the hearing of the case, in order to affirm the conviction of the man. “Every appellant has a right to satisfy the appellate court that the material evidence available on record did not justify his conviction and this is a valuable right which cannot be denied to an appellant,” the high court said, adding that according to settled principles of criminal jurisprudence, every person accused of a crime carries with them the “presumption of innocence” even when they challenge the decision of the trial court in appeal.
