Delhi News Live Updates: The Delhi High Court is set to hear the bail pleas of former JNU student Umar Khalid and student activist Sharjeel Imam on November 25, in connection with a UAPA case linked to the alleged conspiracy behind the communal riots of February 2020. The bail pleas, along with those of other co-accused, including ‘United Against Hate’ founder Khalid Saifi, were scheduled for a fresh hearing on Monday before a bench comprising Justices Navin Chawla and Shalinder Kaur. Khalid, who was arrested by the Delhi Police in September 2020, has challenged a trial court’s decision that denied him bail. The violence broke out during protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the National Register of Citizens (NRC).

Meanwhile, with most exit polls predicting a clear majority for the Congress in Haryana, former CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda arrived in Delhi on Sunday and is expected to meet the party’s top leadership on Monday. He is likely to meet the party’s senior leadership before he returns to his Rohtak residence Monday afternoon, sources said.

Weather and AQI reports: According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday, Delhi experienced a sunny morning with a minimum temperature of 23.2°C and 83% humidity. The maximum temperature is expected to reach 35.7°C. The Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 122, placing it in the “moderate” category, which is acceptable for most people but may cause discomfort for those sensitive to air pollution.

Delhi Police bust syndicate duping investors in YEIDA plot scam

The Delhi Police Crime Branch recently arrested two men involved in defrauding several people of approximately Rs 7-8 crore under the pretext of allotting plots of the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA). The accused have been identified as Jagveer Singh and Satender.

Amit Goel, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch, Delhi), said Singh, the mastermind, operated a fake bank account, ‘Yamuna Expressway Developers’, in the name of his female friend Varsha Sharma. Goel said the phone number and email address associated with the account were found registered in his name.

According to the police, Singh lured the victims into transferring funds into his account, which he then redistributed to others in exchange for a small fee, and they would withdraw the funds. Read

Man electrocuted at Ramlila event in Delhi’s Anand Vihar

A 20-year-old electrician was electrocuted while fixing an LCD screen during the Shri Hanumant Ramlila in Delhi’s Anand Vihar area on Sunday evening, the police said.

The deceased was identified as Veeru aka Aryan, a resident of Mandoli. He used to regularly come to the event organised by Shri Hanumant Ramlila Dharmik Committee at the CBD ground near Karkarduma. According to the police, Veeru was the vendor employed by the committee to look after the maintenance of all the LED and LCD lighting during the event.

On Sunday evening, Veeru was backstage, performing repair work on a large LCD screen when he touched a live wire, the police said. He fell after receiving the shock, but the Ramlila continued even as people rushed to his rescue, according to a police source. Read

After being denied permission to fast at Jantar Mantar to demand Sixth Schedule status for Ladakh , climate activist Sonam Wangchuk on Sunday sought alternative venues. "Another rejection, another frustration. Finally this morning we got this rejection letter for the officially designated place for protests," Wangchuk posted on X, sharing a copy of the letter sent by the Delhi Police rejecting his request to fast at Jantar Mantar. "If Jantar Mantar is not allowed, please tell us which place is allowed. We want to abide by all laws and still express our grievance in a peaceful way. Why is it so difficult to follow the path of Gandhi in his own country? There must be a way," Wangchuk added.

Rejecting the request, the Delhi police said that it was sent at a "very short notice". According to guidelines, applications for holding any demonstration at the Jantar Mantar must be sent at least 10 days prior to the event and be held strictly between 10 am and 5 pm, police said.
