Over 25,000 to 30,000 are expected to be in attendance, including prominent Hindu seers and members from local communities. Apart from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, popular BJP MPs as well as top NDA leaders are also expected to attend the event tomorrow.

Who are likely to make the cut?: According to party insiders, the names — for CM and Council of Ministers — were likely to include “a mix of experience and youth”, with representation from each of the dominant caste and community groupings in the Capital. In all likelihood, the new Delhi CM will be chosen from among BJP’s elected MLAs and not MPs, with names like Parvesh Sahib Singh, Vijender Gupta, Rekha Gupta, Ashish Sood, Satish Upadhyay and Shikha Roy being discussed as potential candidates, The Indian Express has learnt.

Delhi New CM Announcement Live Updates: Over 25,000 security personnel to be deployed for Delhi CM's oath-taking ceremony
More than 25,000 security personnel will be deployed in the central, north, and New Delhi areas of the city for the oath-taking ceremony of the new chief minister at the Ramlila Maidan on Thursday, an official said.
The ceremony is expected to take place at around 12 pm at the sprawling ground in the heart of the national capital. It is likely to be attended by top BJP leaders, including chief ministers from party-ruled states.
"More than 25,000 police personnel and over 15 companies of paramilitary forces will keep a strict vigil," said the officer on Wednesday, asserting that “robust” security arrangements will be in place to maintain law and order situation.
"According to the security plan, more than 5,000 police personnel, along with paramilitary will be deployed in and around the Ramlila Maidan. We have identified more than 2,500 strategic points where heavy deployment will be ensured," he added. Special Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Ravindra Yadav told PTI Videos that the Delhi Police has been preparing for the event for the last two days. (PTI)
As BJP gets ready to pick Delhi CM, 4 big challenges for the new government
As the BJP gets ready to choose the Chief Minister of Delhi on Wednesday evening and hit the ground running after the oath ceremony on Thursday, the challenges before the new government will be immense, from fulfilling its poll promises while managing the finances to developing the national capital’s infrastructure.
1. The main promises
One of the BJP’s biggest election promises was that its government would disburse Rs 2,500 for eligible women beneficiaries by March 8. In one of his campaign speeches, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “We have pledged to give Rs 2,500 to our sisters … this guarantee will be completed because it is Modi’s guarantee … you will see that the BJP government will be formed In Delhi and on March 8, International Women’s Day … they (women) will start getting money in their accounts.”
Putting in place a proper mechanism for this in the next few weeks is going to be a major challenge for the incoming government. The new administration will also need to get cracking within days to put together the budget for the new fiscal, keeping in mind allocations for the scheme for women as well as Rs 21,000 for pregnant women, as promised. Delhi Police issued an advisory regarding the traffic diversion and restrictions for the oath ceremony of the new chief minister of the national capital at Ramleela Ground.
The ceremony will take place on Thursday (Feb 20, 2025), the advisory said.
According to the advisory, many VVIPs/VIPs will attend the oath ceremony at Ram Leela Ground. A large gathering is also expected.
To manage the traffic during this event, certain diversions and restrictions will be in place, the advisory said.
The traffic will be diverted from Subhash Park T-Point, Raj Ghat, Delhi Gate, ITO, Ajmeri Gate, Ranjeet Singh Flyover, Bhabhuti Marg - DDU Marg Red Light, and round about Jhandewalan, it stated.
Traffic regulation, diversion and restrictions may be imposed on BSZ Marg (ITO to Delhi Gate), JLN Marg (Delhi Gate to Guru Nanak Chowk), Aruna Asif Ali Road, Minto Road to round about Kamla Market to Hamdard Chowk, Ranjeet Singh Flyover to Turkman Gate, and Ajmeri Gate to round about Kamla Market and surrounding areas from 7 am to 4 pm on Thursday. Preparations were complete for the legislature party meeting that is expected to begin around 7 pm at Delhi BJP office, the party leaders said.

Delhi New CM Announcement Live Updates: Delhi Police arrests 6 for stone pelting in Southeast Delhi
The Delhi Police arrested six people, three of whom are juveniles, for allegedly being involved in a stone-pelting incident in Madanpur Khadar, an official said on Tuesday. A video of the incident had gone viral on social media, followign which the police initiated an inquiry.
The purported video showed a group of peoplecreating a nuisance in a colony.
The police officer stated that three PCR calls were received on February 16 regarding the incident. A team was dispatched to the spot to investigate, but no eyewitnesses came forward to give statements. However, some locals, on the condition of anonymity, named five individuals involved in the altercation, including two adults and three minors, the police said.
The accused, identified as Sanjeev (20) and Sudhansoo (20), along with three minor boys aged between 12 and 14, were found to have engaged in stone-pelting over a minor dispute, the officer added. (PTI)
Delhi New CM Announcement Live Updates: Delhi HC asks Sandeep Dikshit to re-file defamation lawsuit against AAP
The Delhi High Court on Tuesday asked Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit to re-file his defamation lawsuit against AAP leaders Atishi and Sanjay Singh after it refused to grant him further time to deposit the court fees.
The counsel appearing for Dikshit requested Justice Purushaindra Kaurav to give two weeks' time to arrange the court fees as it was a "significant amount".
The judge noted that even on the last occasion, the hearing was deferred to enable him to take steps for the payment of the court fees for his Rs 10 crore claim, and rejected the lawsuit at this stage.
"You file a fresh suit. Matter can't be kept pending," the judge said.
"Looking at the nature of the controversy, the court finds that until the plaintiff pays the court fees, the court will not be able to proceed and the court gives liberty to re-file the suit after payment of court fees," the court ordered. (PTI)
