Three persons were killed during Holi in three separate incidents in the capital. In the first incident, a 25-year-old man was stabbed to death allegedly by another youth after an argument in south-east Delhi’s Govindpuri area. Police said the deceased was identified as Nazim Khan, a resident of Prahladpur area, who had gone to celebrate Holi at his mother’s house in Govindpuri Thursday. Later, a neighbour, identified as Chanchal alias Bauna (26), also joined the celebration.
“An argument broke out between Khan and Bauna when the former allegedly smeared some mud-like substance on the other. Both men were inebriated. The argument escalated and Bauna whipped out a knife and stabbed Khan several times,” said the officer.
Locals informed police and the accused, who has allegedly been involved in a few other cases, was arrested.
In another incident,a 21-year-old man was hacked to death allegedly by four persons, including two juveniles at Rohini Sector 20 in outer Delhi. “The victim, identified as Rahul, was walking by a market on his way home Thursday evening, when he saw some people fighting, apparently over Holi celebrations, and decided to intervene. Within minutes, he too entered into an argument with some youth in the group,” a police official said.
The men allegedly started beating up Rahul and when he tried to flee, four of them started chasing him. “They got hold of him after a brief chase and attacked him with knives. The accused had fled the scene by the time locals gathered. Rahul was rushed to a hospital, where he was declared dead. He had sustained multiple stab injuries and some of them hit his vital organs. A murder case was registered immediately at Begumpur police station,” the official said.
Police soon apprehended the four accused, of whom two turned out to be minors. The adults were identified as Deepak, who allegedly has earlier been involved in burglary cases, and Ravi. During interrogation, it emerged that all accused were inebriated when the incident took place. It also turned out that Rahul and Deepak had been involved in arguments before.
