A day after a 16-year-old girl was stabbed at least a dozen times and killed in public view allegedly by her boyfriend in Outer Delhi’s Shahbad Dairy, the Delhi Police arrested the 20-year-old AC repair mechanic in connection with the murder.

A police officer said the girl was passing by the street when Sahil, who was identified later, suddenly intercepted her and stabbed her repeatedly with a knife and hit her on her head with stones.

“Sahil and the deceased were in a relationship but yesterday they had a quarrel. On Sunday, the deceased was planning to attend her friend Neetu’s son’s birthday. The accused Sahil intercepted her and stabbed her multiple times,” said the officer.

The police said they had received information on Sunday that a dead body of a girl was lying on a street in the Shahbad Dairy area. The girl’s body was seen by a police informer who alerted the force, which sent a PCR vehicle to the crime scene. They also lodged a case of murder.

Taking note of the crime, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal targeted Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena. “A minor girl is brutally murdered openly in Delhi. This is very sad and unfortunate. The criminals have become fearless, there is no fear of the police. L-G sir, law and order is your responsibility, do something. The safety of the people of Delhi is of paramount importance,” Kejriwal tweeted.

AAP minister Atishi, too, tweeted, “My soul trembled after seeing this dreadful murder. I want to remind the Delhi L-G that the Constitution has given him the responsibility of protecting the people of Delhi but you spend all their time in stopping the work of Arvind Kejriwal. I request the L-G with folded hands to pay attention to the safety of women in Delhi. Today, women are not at all safe in Delhi”.

Meanwhile, Delhi Commission for Women Chairperson Swati Maliwal tweeted, “The audacity of the criminals in Delhi is alarming. Issuing a notice to the police. All limits have been crossed. In my entire career, I have never witnessed anything as horrifying as this.”
