The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) reached a new milestone on Monday, by recording its highest-ever passenger journeys on a single day with 78.67 lakh trips.
The highest-ever passenger journeys on a single day was previously recorded on August 20 this year at 77.48 lakh by breaking the February 13 tally of 71.09 lakh.
As more commuters have switched to Metro trains, a reduction in vehicular emissions is expected, contributing to improved air quality across the region, said DMRC officials.

To accommodate the growing demand, DMRC has added 60 extra trips on weekdays, enhancing its carrying capacity and encouraging more people to opt for the Metro over private vehicles.

The DMRC has also introduced several initiatives to enhance passenger convenience. Digital platforms now allow passengers to book single or multiple journey tickets online, eliminating the need to queue at stations. The DMRC has partnered with organisations such as Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC), and India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO) to offer seamless interconnectivity and additional travel options such as QR code-based tickets.
