A 65-year-old woman was allegedly killed with an iron rod by her son in a village in Noida’s Sector 49, police said Saturday. Police have arrested the accused, 40-year-old Krishna Kumar, and booked him under Section 304 (culpable homicide).
Kumar initially told police that his mother had been killed by his 15-year-old son, said an officer. However, he admitted to the crime while being questioned by police.
“We have arrested Krishna Kumar in connection with the murder of his mother Shakuntala Devi, who was attacked three days ago inside their house,” said Dinesh Yadav, superintendent of police, Noida.
The incident took place in Barolla village in Sector 49 Wednesday, when Shakuntala Devi tried to stop Kumar from beating up his teenage son, said police.
Kumar allegedly picked up an iron rod and hit his mother with it. He left his injured mother and fled the scene, said police. Shakuntala Devi was later taken to a hospital, where she succumbed to injuries Friday.
Kumar later told police that his son had attacked his grandmother and the teenager was detained by police.
However, police later realised that Kumar had killed his mother, said Ajay Kumar, station house officer of Sector 49 police station.
