The Delhi Police on Monday arrested a man for allegedly killing his wife’s lover after he reportedly found them together in a compromising position in his house in North East Delhi’s Shastri Park in the morning.

The victim was identified as Ritik Verma, 21, and the accused Ajmat, a labourer.

“The victim was beaten up with sticks, and he later succumbed to his injuries during treatment at GTB Hospital,” said Rakesh Paweriya, Deputy Commissioner of Police, North East district.

“At around 11 am, when Ajmat reached home, he saw his wife in a compromising position with Verma. The accused, in a fit of rage, physically assaulted both his wife and Verma, leaving the man with a blunt force injury to his forehead,” the officer said.

Another officer said Verma was held hostage at the accused’s home and beaten up by Ajmat and his associates. A few sources claimed that the accused pulled out the victim’s nails. The police, however, denied the claims or any instances of “torture”.

Verma was allegedly in a relationship with the accused’s wife for several months, the police said, adding that the motive behind the murder was “an act of revenge”.

According to the police, the assault was reported on Monday morning through a control room call. On the spot, the investigation officer found that the victim was initially taken to JPC Hospital by his relatives after sustaining severe injuries. He was later transferred to GTB Hospital, where he died at around 9 pm, the police said.
