Kejriwal desperate, resorting to false accusations: Delhi L-G hits back at AAP’s corruption allegations

Over the past few days, AAP has called for an investigation into the role of the L-G, who was the chairperson of the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) when the alleged incident took place. The CBI has registered a case in the matter and filed a charge sheet against the two cashiers.

L-G V K Saxena Thursday said Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had resorted to “diversionary tactics and false accusations” in “desperation”, referring to allegations made by AAP MLAs that he was involved in a “scam” where two cashiers had allegedly exchanged demonetised Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 bank notes at Khadi Gramodyog Bhavan in 2016.

Over the past few days, AAP has called for an investigation into the role of the L-G, who was the chairperson of the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) when the alleged incident took place. The CBI has registered a case in the matter and filed a charge sheet against the two cashiers.

Since he took over as the L-G in May, the elected government and Saxena have been at loggerheads, with the former accusing him of interfering in its work. The L-G, meanwhile, has accused the government of not following set procedures as well as corruption in the Excise Policy 2021-22, for which he recommended a CBI enquiry.

On Thursday, in a series of tweets, Saxena said, “Abiding by the Constitution and my duties towards the people of Delhi, I flagged the issues of: 1. Grave anomalies in Excise Policy later withdrawn by the Cabinet headed by CM Arvind Kejriwal ji himself. 2. Inordinate delay of 2.5 years in acting on CVC report on irregularities in construction of classrooms in Delhi govt schools 3. Files not being signed by CM Arvind Kejriwal ji. 4. CAG audits not being conducted timely in State Universities. 5. Cabinet notes reaching me after Cabinet meetings, and 6. Non-availability of water in Foreign Missions, among others. I had expected Arvind Kejriwal ji to address these in the right spirit. Unfortunately, the response has been nothing but subterfuge amounting to defence of the indefensible and abusive personal attack on me.”

AAP leaders hit back, with Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh asking Saxena on Twitter if he had given the contract to design the Khadi Lounge in Mumbai to his daughter without a tender: “So many tweets against Arvind Kejriwal? You are so scared? There should be zero tolerance for your corruption as well, right? Many people are talking about many cases during your tenure as KVIC Chairperson. Did you give a contract to your daughter without a tender? Is Prime Minister Narendra Modi aware of this?”

The L-G Office said the redesign was done pro-bono and there was no tender or contract. “Sanjay Singh ji, please know that as KVIC Chairperson, the honourable L-G got the Khadi Lounge Mumbai designed pro bono by his daughter, a designer. Contrary to your statement, there was no tender for the design and no one got a contract. Lakhs of rupees were saved,” it said.
