Delhi Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena on Saturday approved the appointment of Azimul Haque as the Delhi Waqf Board CEO, in an additional charge.

He also criticised the AAP government over “callousness” of the Delhi government in the matter, which he said delayed the appointment.
The post was lying vacant since November 28 last year. Due to this, the Board became defunct and its day-to-day activities, which led to Imams and Mutawallis not getting salaries, the L-G alleged.

Saxena underlined in a statement, “The post of CEO (Delhi Waqf Board) is lying vacant since 28.11.2024. However, the government has sent the proposal to give additional charge of CEO (Delhi Waqf Board) after a lapse of one month. Due to this callousness on the part of the government, the day-to-day functioning of the Board like releasing salaries of Imams and other functionaries have been held up.”

“Keeping in view the hardship faced by Imams/Mutawalli who are poor people suffering due to non-payment of salary in the absence of CEO (Delhi Waqf Board), I am approving the proposal. However, the proposal should be ratified by the Board before the appointment takes effect. Further, it is advised that in the future the proposal should be sent for my consideration strictly as per provisions of law,” the Lieutenant Governor said in the statement.
