Water Minister Kapil Mishra Wednesday accused Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) chief M K Meena and Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung of trying to shield former chief minister Sheila Dikshit from corruption charges, and demanded the registration of an FIR against both.

Mishra claimed that while he was being “targeted” despite being the complainant in the alleged water tanker scam, Dikshit, who was an “accused”, had been sent a “request” by the ACB over another alleged scam.

The minister said he, as a complainant in the alleged water tanker scam, was ordered to appear before the ACB on a specific time and date, merely 10 days after a complaint on the issue by BJP leader Vijender Gupta.

“Four FIRs were registered against Dikshit two years and five months ago. There has been no action on those FIRs till date. I have written a letter demanding the arrest of Lt Governor Najeeb Jung and M K Meena, using their own standards. They have been sitting on four FIRs and investigative reports… this is a disgrace and more importantly an illegality that necessitates an immediate FIR,” said Mishra.

The minister said the “notice” sent to Dikshit over the water meter procurement “scam” was more of a request letter than a notice.

“Dikhit ji ko bola hai apni marzi ki jagah bata de kahan mile. Kya Sheila Dikshit Narendra modi ki chachi hai ? Kya yeh ghar mein koi utsav manaya jaa raha hai jiska date aur time fix kiya jaa raha hai? Kya is prarthana patra ke saath Meena ji ne unhe falo ki tokri aur mithai ka dabba bhi bheja hai? Yeh janna bhot zaroori hai. (Dikshit ji was told she can choose the place where she wants to meet the investigation official. Is Sheila Dikshit Narendra Modi’s aunt? Is this a family function for which a time and date is being fixed? Did Meena ji send a basket of fruits and sweets along with this request letter? We need to find out),” said the minister.

Mishra further alleged, “A senior BJP leader is holding meetings at his home, and issuing directions that Dikshit should not be harmed. The Congress is not asking her any questions and the BJP is not letting anyone question her.”

Responding to Mishra’s allegation, Delhi BJP chief Satish Upadhyay said “such nonsensical comments are expected of AAP”. “They always have to involve the Prime Minister in everything. They talk rubbish and not one decent thing can be expected of them. Their allegations about a BJP leader hosting meetings in his house is an imaginary story,” said Upadhyay.

On the alleged water meter scam, Mishra claimed that while the private company applied for a tender for installing 1.5 lakh meters, it finally ended up installing 3.5 lakh meters. “The price of a meter was fixed at Rs 1,918 per meter. The same meter was available for Rs 875 in the market,” alleged Mishra.
