Delhi HC directs PWD to clean Dhaula Kuan drain used by soldiers of Rajputana Rifles to reach parade ground from barracks

The Delhi High Court stated the drain must also be cleaned, and that photos of the same must be placed before the court on June 18.

The Delhi High Court Friday directed the Public Works Department (PWD) to clean up the drain in Dhaula Kuan through which soldiers of the Rajputana Rifles have to pass four times a day.

A bench of Justices Prathiba Singh and Manmeet Pritam Singh Arora on May 26 had taken suo motu cognisance of a newspaper report wherein it stated that over 3,000 soldiers of the Rajputana Rifles have to pass through a drain which is foul smelling and filthy when they move out of their barracks and go to the parade ground.

The bench on Friday directed the PWD to clean the ‘malba’ (debris), while recording that the Delhi government has given in-principle approval for the construction of a foot overbridge. However, the court was informed that, considering the vehicular movement in the vicinity, the design of the foot overbridge will take some time to be finalised.
