The Delhi government on Tuesday proposed a luxury tax on spas,gyms,banquet halls and hotels where room tariff is over Rs 750 per day. A provision has been made in the Delhi Tax on Luxuries (Amendment) Bill,2012,introduced by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit,who also holds the Finance portfolio.
As per the Bill,health clubs,gyms,spas and banquet halls with an annual turnover of Rs 5 lakh will have to pay a luxury tax on their services. Officials said the tax may be up to 15 per cent.
