The Delhi Government on Friday announced a comprehensive anti-pollution drive that combines a citywide call for public participation, a fresh MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) with the GMR Group for major road beautification, the launch of a large-scale road redevelopment effort and a full Ring Road cleaning operation scheduled for Saturday.

The initiatives were launched by Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta as part of what she described as an united battle against rising pollution levels in the Capital.

Speaking at the Delhi Secretariat, Gupta urged citizens, companies and government agencies to share responsibility for cleaner air under the campaign “Pradushan ke viruddh Dilli ka yuddh.” She said meaningful improvement would be possible only when every stakeholder participates actively and consistently.

Gupta announced that teams will conduct extensive cleaning, road-washing and water-sprinkling along the Ring Road corridor on Saturday to control dust and improve air quality. She added that the broader road revamp across Delhi has already begun.

The event marked the signing of a MoU between the Public Works Department (PWD) and the GMR Group. Under the agreement, GMR will maintain and beautify the Azad Market to Inderlok stretch through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme. The company will undertake jet cleaning, drip irrigation, plantation, greening and regular upkeep of the corridor over a three-year period at an estimated cost of Rs 6 crore.

Gupta said the initiative is part of a larger effort to involve corporations in maintaining the city’s infrastructure. Several major road and flyover stretches are set to be redeveloped through CSR partnerships.

These include Madhuban Chowk to Mukarba Chowk, the Chirag Delhi, Panchsheel Club and IIT flyovers, the Punjabi Bagh Flyover and Aurobindo Marg, the Munirka Flyover, the Punjabi Bagh Flyover on the Ram Mandir side of the Outer Ring Road, the Netaji Subhash Place Flyover, the Oberoi to Lodhi Road Flyover and the Karampura Flyover.
