Following an order by Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena, the Finance department has issued a circular to senior officers to strictly follow the GNCTD Act and the Ordinance related to services matter, which was passed by the Centre last month.
The finance department issued the circular on May 31 to all departments, additional chief secretaries, principal secretaries, heads of the departments, and other departments of the Delhi government.
This came after Saxena directed Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar to strictly bring the Centre’s Ordinance to the notice of all bureaucrats and senior officers of Delhi.
“The Lieutenant Governor has desired that Chief Secretary may kindly bring this ordinance to the notice of all Addl. Chief Secretaries/ Principal Secretaries/ Secretaries/ Head of Departments of all Departments/ Autonomous bodies/ undertakings of Govt. of NCT of Delhi for strict compliance,” read the official order sent to Kumar by the principal secretary to L-G.
The Centre had on May 19 brought an Ordinance overturning the Supreme Court’s judgement which gave power to the AAP government over the Services Department and transfers and postings of senior bureaucrats in the national capital.
Under the Ordinance, the central gives more power to the LG and as per the GNCTD act, LG is the government.
After the Central Government brought in the Ordinance, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal started a campaign and is meeting all Opposition party leaders to seek support to fight it in the Rajya Sabha.
