Delhi: Couple dead as scooter hits truck at Nehru Place

Police said the incident took place around 6 am, when the victims were going to a temple. Police said a case of rash driving was registered against unknown persons.

A young couple died after their vehicle was involved in a crash with a truck at Nehru Place flyover Sunday. Police said the incident took place around 6 am, when the victims were going to a temple on their scooter. Police said a case of rash driving was registered against unknown persons.

Police said the exact sequence of events is still being probed. Chinmoy Biswal, DCP (South East), said, “We received a call at 6.19 am Sunday. Officers found the couple lying near a damaged scooter with severe head injuries. The truck driver had fled with his vehicle. The victims were rushed to AIIMS Trauma Centre, where they were declared dead on arrival.”

Hailing from Haryana’s Palwal, Tarun Bharadwaj (27), an employee with Niti Ayog, shifted to the capital with his wife Riya Sharma (20) this year. The couple lived with their family in South Delhi’s Chirag area.

Police said a post-mortem was conducted Monday.
