Two men on a motorcycle allegedly opened fire at a police checkpost and injured a constable on a flyover in central Delhi, after they were asked to stop their vehicle Saturday afternoon. Constable Bheema Ram was rushed to a hospital and his condition is stable.

Bheema Ram, a personnel of Daryaganj police station, was part of a 22-member team deployed to nab two men suspected to be involved in multiple cases of chain snatching. Police had received information that the two men would travel via the flyover, which connects central Delhi to Geeta Colony in east Delhi, at that time.

“The incident took place at 1.45 pm, when a police team had been deployed on the flyover to nab the chain-snatcher duo. Police had received several complaints about them in the past one month. When the police team spotted the suspicious bike-borne duo, they tried to flag them down. However, the two men opened fire and one of the bullets hit Ram on the arm,” said a police officer.

While police managed to arrest the pillion rider, the second assailant escaped, he added. A case has been registered at Daryaganj police station.
