Delhi Chief Minister Atishi inaugurated the long-awaited Punjabi Bagh flyover Thursday and said the six-lane corridor will provide smooth connectivity between West and Southwest Delhi and benefit 3.45 lakh commuters.

After inaugurating the stretch, Atishi congratulated the people of Delhi and said, “Today, the Punjabi Bagh flyover was inaugurated. This 1.12-km-long flyover will provide relief from traffic jams to all Delhiites travelling from Azadpur to Raja Garden.”

She also in a post on X said that 39 flyovers and underpasses have been constructed by the AAP government in the last 10 years.

The flyover was constructed as part of the Integrated Corridor Redevelopment project of Punjabi Bagh. As part of this project, two flyovers — one at Moti Nagar which is a three-lane elevated corridor which was opened for the public earlier in March, and the Club Road or Punjabi Bagh flyover across Najafgarh Drain from ESI hospital to existing Club Road (1,123-m-long) was opened today.

“Currently, traffic on Ring Road destined for Punjabi Bagh and Paschim Vihar areas takes the Basaidarapur route. The new flyover will help to channelise this traffic. Vehicles moving in the direction of Azadpur from Raja Garden and vice-versa can use both these flyovers and avoid traffic congestion,” said a senior PWD official associated with the project.

Officials also said the opening of the flyover will benefit traffic of around 1,24,952 PCUs per day and reduce travel time by 6.5 minutes.

“Assuming the occupancy of 2.99 persons per vehicle, the total number of persons using the road daily is 3,76,596 persons. It is expected that on an average, approximately 40,796 man hours per day which is worth Rs 99.95 crore each year will be saved with the opening of this flyover,” the official added.
