A 34-year-old south Delhi businessman was allegedly kidnapped at gunpoint by four men who crashed into his car in Mahipalpur Monday night. They assailants allegedly held him hostage for three hours while they took his Ford Endeavour on a joyride before dumping him outside Shadipur Metro station.

According to the victim, Jatin Negi, he was heading home to Vasant Kunj after dropping a friend in Aerocity. “At around 11.15 pm, I was crossing the Mahipalpur Road when a car suddenly banged into mine. I parked my car by the side of the road. The occupants of the other car got out and one of them shouted at the others for banging into my car. They asked me to forgive them and said they would pay for the damage. They asked me to check the damage and tell them how much to pay,” said Negi.

As Negi got out of the car, he claimed one of the assailants whipped out a pistol and threatened him. “They all got into the car and pulled me into the back seat. They started to beat me mercilessly. They first asked me to reveal the password of my two debit cards and hit me whenever I tried to open my eyes. They were drinking and threatened to sodomise me if I screamed,” he alleged.

Negi claimed the assailants went on a joyride in his car for three hours while he lay on the floor of the car. He said they stopped the car at 12 ATM kiosks and withdrew Rs 1 lakh. “Whenever I requested them to give me water, they slapped me and kicked my leg.” claimed Negi.

After robbing his cell-phone, gold chain and other valuables, he said the assailants threw him out of the moving car at 2.40 am outside Shadipur Metro station.

“I pleaded with passersby for help, but they all refused. I asked two people to call police after narrating my ordeal. One of them refused, saying he did not have balance in his phone, while the other did not even listen to me,” Negi told The Indian Express.

He said he finally found a PCR van and told the officer about the incident. However, instead of taking him to a hospital, he claimed they took him to Ranjeet Nagar police station in Central district where officials asked him from where he was abducted.

“Police kept asking me which road I had been abducted from, instead of taking me to a hospital. They were waiting for police personnel of Vasant Kunj police station as Mahipalpur Road comes under their jurisdiction. Later, I was taken to Vasant Kunj police station, from where they took me to the hospital and recorded my statement,” he said.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (south) Nupur Prasad said, “We have registered a case of robbery and abduction at Vasant Kunj (south) police station and the investigation is on.”
