For most BJP leaders, Gandhi Jayanti is going to be a hectic day. The Delhi BJP has ensured that every leader of stature would participate in Thursday’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.

As the drive is the brainchild of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the leaders are taking an active interest in the campaign. And with the media and social media closely watching the preparations, Delhi BJP leaders have been asked to ensure there are no garbage heaps in their areas.

Directions have been sent to district presidents, councillors and MLAs to ensure cleanliness in their areas. BJP leaders will be present in strength in Central Delhi, where Modi will attend a series of events related to the cleanliness drive. At the Boat Club, around 8.45 am, Modi is scheduled to inaugurate a marathon after a pledge to keep the country clean. The BJP has urged its supporters to be present at the Boat Club for the event.

South Delhi MP Ramesh Bidhuri, after accompanying the PM at Valmiki Sadan and the Boat Club, will inspect cleanliness activities in his constituency. “A cleanliness drive has been planned at Tughlakabad station at 11 am, which the Delhi BJP chief is likely to attend. Several other programmes too have been lined up,” Bidhuri said.

After attending the event at the Boat Club, Maheish Girri, East Delhi MP, will launch a cleanliness drive at 11 am at Anand Vihar railway station. He will go to Veermani hospital in Mayur Vihar at 12.15 pm.

Parvesh Sahib Singh, West Delhi MP, will visit the Delhi Cantt station and Vikaspuri after the Boat Club event. Rajendra Nagar MLA R P Singh said people have been urged to start the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan from their homes. “We have told them to clean their homes first. Cleaning the roads outside their homes would be my responsibility. We have already shifted the dustbins at the entry gates of two villages and the Public Works Department is cleaning the roads and central verges,” Singh said.

North Delhi Municipal Corporation Mayor Yogendra Chandolia said he would inspect four zones. “After the Boat Club event, I will head to Town Hall to pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi and then inspect four zones, including Chandni Chowk and Sadar Bazar,” he said.

Chief Secretary D M Spolia has also directed all departments to maintain cleanliness. The Delhi Secretariat and Assembly will also launch the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
