At least four students were injured after ceiling of a classroom collapsed in Delhi University’s Daulat Ram College on Tuesday. The incident took place in the political science department of the college at round 11:00 am when a lecture was underway. The students have been taken to Hindu Rao Hospital, police said.
“The ceiling of room 105 collapsed on 4 to 5 girls during a class. Though many were injured, three girls were rushed to hospital for medical assistance,” said Priya Sharma, a third year student.
The student also said the college administration has turned a deaf ear to their problems.
“The issues has been raised many times before the college principal and governing body, but nothing has been done yet. In that particular block of 40 odd rooms, at least 20 are in similar condition,” added Sharma.
Another student also echoed similar concerns saying the college also lacks basic infrastructure. “There are no toilets in that block too. Some of the classrooms in dilapidated condition remain close with locks. The principal is holding a council meeting to discuss the situation,” said Shreya Das.
The police reached the college to take stock of the situation. “We came to know about the issue and police is on ground. Four of the girls with serious injuries have been taken to Hindu Rao Hospital,” said Maurice Nagar police official.
