The parents of Vinay, one of the six accused in the Delhi gangrape case,on Wednesday claimed before a city court that their son was innocent.
Vinays father told Additional Sessions Judge Yogesh Khanna that his son had gone to a musical programme in Green Park at the time the rape allegedly took place. His testimony corroborates Vinays earlier statement before the court, where he said that on the night of the incident,he had gone to a musical programme with co-accused Pawan and his mother and sister.
Both their statements contradict the testimony given by accused Mukesh who had told the court that he was driving the bus when the incident allegedly took place and all the six accused in the case Ram Singh (his brother),Akshay,Pawan,Vinay and a minor accused were present in the back of the bus.
Ram Singh, the driver of the bus where the gangrape allegedly took place, was found dead in his cell in Tihar Jail on March 11.
Vinays father claimed before the court that his son had been framed by Ram Singh and his family, who had a previous criminal record. He said his son was innocent, worked in a gym and provided financially for his family. Two other witnesses shall be produced before the court to corroborate Vinays alibi on Thursday.
Accused Pawan in an earlier occasion had also told the court that Mukesh had deposed against him in order to settle past scores. According to Pawan,Mukesh used to buy fruits from him on credit and had not paid him. They had quarrelled on the issue.
A 23-year old paramedic student was gangraped onboard a moving bus on December 16 last year. She succumbed to injuries in a Singapore hospital 13 days later. Juvenile Justice Board conducted the trial for the minor accused. Proceedings against Ram Singh were abated after his death.
The trial proceedings are continuing against the remaining four accused at a fast track court in Saket.
