Dayalpur building collapse: Delhi L-G orders magisterial probe

“As part of the ongoing investigation, the Authorities are diligently working to ascertain the cause of the building’s collapse, which preliminary assessments suggest may have been unauthorised construction. In light of this, the MCD has been directed to take appropriate action against field-level officials for any lapses in oversight that may have contributed to this tragic event,” an official said.

The inquiry will delve deeper into the circumstances surrounding the collapse, examining all relevant facts and identifying any lapses or acts of omission and commission that may have played a role in this disaster, the official added.

The inquiry will also seek to hold accountable individuals and entities involved in the construction, he said.

Following the collapse, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) said the nearly 20-year-old building was an unauthorised construction. After the incident, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta had also ordered a probe into the incident.

“Deeply saddened by the tragic building collapse… An investigation has been ordered, and strict action will be taken against the culprits,” she said in a post.
