Aslam was also allegedly carrying a Jammu and Kashmir identity card — with name of Salim Mohammed — and a Pakistani passport bearing the name Yusuf.

After an initial interrogation, the police suspect Aslam procured the consignment from Pakistan occupied Kashmir and was to deliver it to his two counterparts in Aurangabad.

On Tuesday, the accused was produced before Metropolitan Magistrate Manish Yaduvanshi in a city court, who sent him for custodial interrogation till September 9.

The police said that from primary investigations it seems that Aslam had links in Maharashtra and Gujarat and police teams from the two states will come to Delhi to interrogate him..

“Aslam has revealed the names of his two associates. He also has links in Gujarat and Maharashtra, where he is also involved in some criminal cases. We need to take him to both these places so that his accomplices can be identified and flushed out,” a senior police officer said.

The police suspect that the explosives were being transported to Maharashtra for attacks there during the ongoing Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations.

Aslam is the third suspected militant to be arrested by the Delhi Police this month. On August 6,the Special Cell had arrested two suspected Hizbul Mujahideen militants — Javed Ahmed Tantray and Ashiq Ali Bhatt — from Daryaganj area.
