If it’s spring,it’s time for examinations. And so it is in Ghaziabad’s Dasna Jail.

The jail is making special arrangements to enable more than a hundred inmates from Dasna and other jails in nearby districts to take the Board exams there. The inmates from other jails would also stay at Dasna for about a month during the exams.

The Higher Secondary and Intermediate exams start on March 5,and inmates would come from Muzaffarnagar,Meerut,Bulandshahr and Saharanpur district jails to write their papers,Ghaziabad District Magistrate R Ramesh Kumar said on Thursday.

Dasna Jail Superintendent V K Singh said this is the first time the prison would host inmates from other jails who would take the Board examinations. “Dasna also has 30 prisoners who would take undergraduate examinations from IGNOU this year,” Singh said. “The other prisoners — some have already come and a few may arrive soon — would also be lodged with those who would appear for examinations.”

District Magistrate Kumar said,“We have made arrangements for them to stay with others who would also take the exams.”

Kumar said 24-hour electricity would be provided to these inmates to help them study.

Jail Superintendent Singh said another batch of 35 prisoners would get their computer programme diploma next month. “Some of them had basic knowledge of computers and expressed interest in learning further. So we hired a teacher from Krishna College of Engineering in Ghaziabad, who comes here after college and teaches the inmates,” Singh said.
