With two art and culture festivals being introduced this year, the country’s autumn-winter calendar just became more packed. While the Banaras Utsav unfolded across the holy city’s famous ghats, the Jaipur Art Summit promises to bring artists and art lovers to the Pink City.

The four-day Banaras Utsav, which began on October 24,boasted a line-up comprising classical vocalists Rajan-Sajan Mishra, artist Jatin Das,who delivered a talk on “Indian Art: Through the Ages”,and music historian Vikram Shampath, who spoke on courtesans in classical music.

The Jaipur Art Summit is an initiative by the Progressive Artists Group of Rajasthan and other artists and aims to bring contemporary art practices on the centre stage. From November 7 to 11,visitors can participate in an art camp by stalwarts such as Anjolie Ela Menon and Prabhakar Kolte, witness installation art being created by Mithu Sen,Chintan Upadhyay and Surendra Pal Joshi, and visit an exposition on folk forms such as saanjhi art of Vrindavan.
