Man held for murder
A 22-year-old man has been arrested for shooting dead a man and injuring his wife in the New Usmanpur area of Northeast Delhi. The police said Poonam,a resident of Gamri,reported on March 28 that one Hari Kant had kidnapped her husband Bhura and was demanding a ransom of Rs 2 lakh. As directed,she went to J P Nagar,where Bhura was being held captive. When Bhura resisted,Hari Kant fired at him and Poonam and fled the spot.
A police team took the couple to GTB Hospital,where Bhura was declared dead on arrival. The police said Hari Kant was arrested from Chowk Gautam Vihar after a tip-off.
Tantrik arrested for cheating
A tantrik was arrested for cheating people after a woman filed a complaint against him in Jaitpur village on Sunday. The police said the woman told them she approached Mia Abul Hassan in Sant Nagar as her daughter was missing since January 12. Hassan demanded Rs 80,000 and assured her that her daughter would return within three hours. He then asked to pay another Rs 60,000. She gave him three tolas of gold and another Rs 40,000,after which Hassan went missing. He was apprehended after a tip-off.
One held for minors murder
One person has been arrested for the murder of a 7-year-old boy found in a sack in Lal Quan area on Thursday. The police said the deceased,Sandeep,a resident of Govindpuri,was strangulated to death. Eyewitnesses told the police they had seen a TSR driver throwing the jute sack with the dead body and had noted down part of its number.
The TSR was traced to one Sunil Kumar (32). It was learnt that Sandeep was living with the boys maternal aunt,Vimla Devi. Sunil Kumar had been living in the same house with Devi since 1992. The police said Devi would tell Sandeep he was the sole heir to her property,which was not well received by Sunil Kumar.
Court dismisses bail plea in Phoolan Devi murder
A city court on Monday dismissed a bail plea by Vijay Singh Rana,the younger brother of Sher Singh Rana,prime accused in the Phoolan Devi murder case. Vijay has been in custody since his arrest in August 2001 and the court noted there was no valid ground to release him on bail at this stage of the trial.
No relief for man who threw out tenants articles
A man who allegedly helped a landlord break open the lock of his tenant and throw out her belongings,has been denied protection from arrest by a city court. ASJ S K Sharma dismissed an anticipatory bail plea by Sabir Ali,accused of entering the house of complainant Gudia in her absence and throwing out her articles on February 3.
