Cricket World Cup betting racket busted in South Delhi, 3 arrested

During questioning, police said the accused disclosed that they used the ‘Betting Assistant Software’ to maintain a list, book and accounts of punters or gamblers. “As part of the group’s operation, one person would be present at the stadium where the match was being played, and another would be connected to him through a mobile phone or some electronic device, called a line, to provide the actual score, which is one or two balls faster than the live match being telecast on TV channels,” said the DCP.

Police said the accused used this line for betting and passed it to their punters. “They purchased the said software from Nehru Place and the line from known persons… Around Rs 5 to Rs 7 lakh was on stake per match while around Rs 50 lakh to Rs 1 crore is on stake for the Cricket World Cup, where nine matches have already been played till now,” the officer said.
