He added that during the raid, the accused were found “placing bets on their laptops and mobile phones in the seventh Twenty20 cricket live cricket match of BBL being played from 10.30 am”.

The police have seized five laptops, 14 cellphones, five notepads, six pens and a television, used in the betting, apart from 10 personal smartphones of the accused, the DCP said.

“One of the accused, Jagrit alias Sunny, possessed a master identity card (ID) for a betting website (JMD Sports.com). He used his ID to create sub IDs and sold them to punters for placing bets on live matches. The profits and losses were shared between the master ID holder and the punters – 5% and 95%, respectively,” said Sain.

He added that the group also facilitated offline betting. “Punters would call in and place bets on live matches based on the offered odds. These bets were recorded manually in notebooks,” Sain said.

The officer said the group had been running the racket for about a year. “The daily transaction was estimated to be around Rs 1.5 lakh, with a profit and loss margin of Rs 30,000 to Rs 40,000.”

The mastermind behind the operation, Raju Vaishnav, is a goldsmith, police said. The accused hailed from various states, including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan.
