It was the promise of treating his colleague to a chaat which led Arun Sharma (61),a resident of Sector 10 of Gurgaon,to take the Aurangzeb Road on Monday. His red Indica was right behind the Toyota Innova, which caught fire following a high-intensity blast on Monday. Sharma was among the four injured in the blast.
Sharma suffered splinter injuries on his face when the windscreen of his car shattered in the impact of the blast. His colleague Manjeet Gupta,a consultant, also sustained splinter injuries.
Now resting at his Sector 10 residence,Sharma, legal manager with Goramal Hariram Ltd,a soap manufacturing comany, relives the nightmare. He said he initially thought it was a gas cylinder blast. He was returning from Noida where he had gone for an department hearing on behalf of his company.
I had picked up Manjeet and together we went to Noida. Then we went to meet a client in Sahibabad. While returning I asked him which route to take since I had to drop him at Hari Nagar. We were contemplating on whether to take the ITO or the UPSC building route. He said,if I took the UPSC route, there was a famous chaatwala on the way, where we could stop . So we went there, had chaat and were returning when the blast took place, said Sharma.
I thought it had taken place right outside my car. In the meantime, all cars came to a standstill. I somehow managed to get out of my car and crawled to the footpath. I touched my head and it was bleeding, said Sharma.
But the police and the ambulance services responded quickly and I was taken to the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital.
After attending to his wounds,Sharma was kept in the ICU for observation. Later,I came to know that it was a bomb that had exploded, he said.
Sharma lives with his son,daughter-in-law,wife and granddaughter. His family said they had not even told their daughter, who lives in the UK,about the incident. She will unnecessarily panic and we did not want that, Sharma said.
